Presentation Night 2022
Thought I must give a response to the evening of Saturday 12th November 2022
What a great evening, everything seemed to go exceptionally well, starting with Colin in his Co-op regalia nice to see for us oldies. Now the only disappointment was the turn out sad that so many missed an enjoyable event, but as they say the choice was theirs. The actual presentation was well co-ordinated, Margaret again excelled does a great job and of course aided by Colin. Nice to hear and see the awards applauded with a few caustic humorous comments passed to the winners and runners up. Then we were treated to a glorious meal, the Co-op ladies, (and maybe one or two fellows) certainly know how to prepare, cook & bake but also how to present their produce. Was a very nice touch to have the meals placed on pre-warmed hot plates (10 out of 10 for this). But of course appearance is not the main factor, everything boils (pun not intended) down to satisfying the palate and this for both me & Margaret (Wallace) was achieved to a very high degree a nice touch to have French sticks pre-cut and the Naan bread. Must not forget after the main meal we were again treated to delicious deserts. Can’t imagine any one not enjoying the choice and distinctive favours of the hot and cold foods available, Well done to all the hard working Ladies/(perhaps a man or two) who gave us some thing to enjoy and remember, Thank you all.
Oh and mustn’t forget that on leaving was presented with a large bowl filled to the brim with a desert we initially had not selected “Banoffee” pie, whoa this was something else and with a small drop of cream went down very/very well, can’t add much to this except when are you doing this again. Only trouble is all those who missed out will no doubt have learnt/heard of the excellent job preformed and will swamp the lounge with their presence.
Margaret and I will say it again Thank you for an extremely enjoyable evening
Kind regards Charles & Margaret Wallace

Bar Refit - Two Days Work In A Minute
Over the weekend (15th/16th Oct), the back of the bar had a refit. The whole 10 hours of effort has been captured in this video that lasts just over a minute. Yes it is jerky as it's made from time frame photos.
Thanks goes to all those captured in the last frame (Sean, Dave, Liz, Chris, Marcia, Martin and Nick), along with Annie, Mark, Kevin, Gill, Ali, David, Margaret, Colin and Phil who helped earlier in the project.
Extra special thanks goes to John Norman & Malcolm Williams without whose expertise, skill and eternal patience with those less competent, none of this would have happened. When you watch the video, remember that for every frame, when one of John or Malcolm is missing, it means they were somewhere else, measuring, sawing, sanding, planing or generally making sure that the rest of us were working to their standard.
A real team effort and we think, a good outcome and improvement on the bar appearance. The back bar has also been revamped and looking a lot tidier with more storage space.

Closing of the Green
After a very successful bowls season we closed the green on Sunday 25th September with our game against Caer Glow. As usual it was a friendly one with lots of banter and good humour, this was followed by a tea laid on by our members. They never cease to surprise, after the call to please bring food we had more than enough to feed both teams and visitors. Thanks all.
Sean was the captain of the month and regaled us with some interesting facts - We have played around 30 friendly games this season, that’s 21,600 bowls played, equivalent to over 400 miles bowled one after another which is further than from Gloucester to Glasgow. Also the wine sales at the bar have risen for a second year running, so thank you Annie and Bev and I hate to think how far all those bottles would stretch end to end. Bev’s comment was she is heading for Greenland 😂😂. Well done to Co-Op for winning the Ron Gardner Rose Bowl, here it is being presented to Sean by Andy Captain of Caer Glow. |

Unauthorised Use Of The Green
A very serious matter has been brought to the attention of the Committee. Unauthorised use of the green appears to have taken place shortly after the last match of this year's Finals Day. The image evidence below will be presented to the Committee and appropriate sanction will be made. The proposed sanction is for repeat performances on spare rinks during future finals day matches. The Committee will also consider escalating this matter to the Gloucestershire Bowls Association for them to consider inviting the trio to National Finals Day at Leamington.
Finals Day, 10th September
Just a selection of photographs from Finals Day. Our thanks to Marcia for taking on the role of Club Photographer for the day. More pictures are in The Gallery.
Hot Shots, 2022
In June this year, Marg, David, Martin & Martin enjoyed the 'perfect' end with a score of 8 during a friendly against Ledbury. To show it wasn't a fluke, they went on to win their rink 29 - 12.
The next time they were all together was at the recent match at STR which is where this picture was taken albeit without the certificates. |
What a summer we've had, so hot that we decided to sell ice creams as well as providing tea and cold drinks from the bar. We even had our own ice cream lady, thanks Annie, you did a grand job.
Ladies v Gents 2022
What a wonderful afternoon this game turned out to be, at first it was in the balance due to the adverse weather conditions, who could believe that the temperature would soar to the high 30degs. Once we were all lashed with sun lotion we took to the green to play 10 ends with a break after 5 when we retired to the club house for a well earned drink or ice cream. Thanks must go to Sean for popping to the Co-Op to get them as I'd forgotten the day before. The gents had a lovely surprise when all of the ladies turned up in pink attire, the keen eyed of you will also notice that we have a "burly" lady in our midst, Paul gallantly stepped into the brink as we were one short, even letting us dress him up, you're a good sport Paul so a big thank you and also thanks to all of the ladies for helping make the day, we also didn't do too badly in the result with two winning rinks each with the final result of Gents 39 Ladies 30. Next year gents, next year.
Triples Day 2022
Everyone enjoyed the Triples Day event, Margaret again chose well with the names of the teams, Glawster, and with her second in command Martin, did a sterling job of organising us all. The results were updated by the spreadsheet that Martin had devised and all were impressed with the "big telly", making us look very professional. Thanks both of you for such a lovely day and to arrange the dry, sunny weather was a bonus. Congratulations go to both teams, Jan, Roy, Mike, Tom, Nicky and Veronica for getting to the final and giving us spectators an exciting game to watch.
Men's 2 Rink League
Well, what a flaming evening that was, the men all wearing their Hawaiian shirts all ready for the heatwave. The ladies suitably dressed in coats and trousers, however, what fun there was to be had, laughter and good natured banter followed by a bbq cooked by Lewis, Steve's son. Thanks Lewis, it went down a treat and thanks must also go to Derek and Andy from Caer Glow who manned the bar, they were very much in demand. The outcome of the game was that Group A won on one rink with Group B winning on the other, very evenly matched. Well done all it was an enjoyable evening.
Men's County Two Rink
Congratulations go to the Men's team who played GB Britton B on Sunday 5th June in the County Two Rink Preliminary Round. They won and are now going on to Round 1 and playing Olveston A. Good luck chaps
County Player
As you know if you win or come second in either of a 2 wood or 4 wood competition then you're eligible to put your name forward to the county. Alison decided to do this and was reserve for the Mixed County game against Warwickshire on Wednesday 1st June, however, she ended up playing and has the stickers to prove it. From what I can gather from her it was a steep learning curve. Well done and congratulations on making the team.
Ladies & Gents 2 Wood Day 2022
What a lovely day it turned out to be, warm and dry. The day started off with a welcoming cup of tea before the men played their first rounds. All had a good game with some close scoring. After a short break it was now the turn of the ladies and here again there were close scores on all the rinks. The men's second round then took place before a lunch break. Well, it was more of a feast as all who brought food really excelled themselves, I'm sure we could have fed another team as well. It kept us going for the semi finals who were Charles Wallace vs Sean Bailey and Jan Bruton vs Veronica Baldwin but before the final took place, of course there were lots of cakes to be eaten. After all this food it was now time to watch the final and what exciting games they were, any of them could have claimed to be the winners but Sean and Veronica won the day. Well done to you both they were lovely games to watch and thankyou to everyone who brought the "American supper", we certainly didn't need to eat anything for the rest of the day.
BCounty Comps have started and some of our members are participating in these. John Norman, Mick Neale, Malcolm Williams and Martin Askham played against a team from Barnwood and won the first round, the second round was played on 23rd May with Chris Gardner playing instead of Martin, however the 2nd Barnwood team proved hard to beat and I'm afraid they don't go on to the next round. The experience they've had from these games will no doubt prepare them for next year.
On Friday 20th May the Men's Top Club team played against FramptonB and had a good win, all five rinks played well with Phil playing the 4 wood singles going to 26 ends but losing by only one shot. They are now onto the second round which will be played at home
