Lockdown DIY Update - Charles & Margaret Wallace
An update from Charles : Thought I would update you as to what I have been doing.
Can you remember the two pictures you received about removing a fish pond and replacing with a patio ? Well have been busy erecting a new “Summer House”, on to the area of the patio. Had to wait for some time, should have been delivered before end of November (2020), but received 20th January 2021 as a flat pack weighing some one and a quarter tonnes. So fighting the dreaded Covid-19 and rough weather have, with a little help from the son-in-law, created our new paradise for Margaret and I to share, gin and tonics already in hand but waiting for warmer conditions. So you see have not been idle but enjoyed getting frost bitten and soaked but the end result is, in my opinion, great and will be fully enjoyed. |
Sepsis Trust Bike Ride
On Sunday 20th December a group of intrepid cyclists from the Bowls Club had a sponsored cylce ride by achieving a minimum of 10 miles each, they did go over this though. This was to help with the sponsored cycle ride that Malcolm had been doing in September before he came off and broke his collar bone. The ten riders, plus Roy as drinks monitor, had an enjoyable but very wet morning by cycling routes between The Aviator at the Airport and The Old Elm in Churchdown. Between them they raised £560 which brings in a total sum of £1,297 and thanks go to everyone who participated. Perhaps we can make cycling an extra event to bowling, what do you think?

Lockdown DIY
Maybe you've been busy around the home or garden during our Spring, Summer and Autumn period of Lockdown ? Let us know, send a photo or two and we'll post them here.

Margaret and I have been active doing a task to remove our fish pond and replacing with a patio. We managed to distribute our fish and pond plants free to takers. The fish something over 60 in numbers were taken by 3 Gloucester people and a chap from Bristol they between them took all the plants and any remaining fish goodies. Great for us as the emergency plan was to put the fish in Horsbere brook, perhaps they would have become part of the food chain !!!
So now we could empty the pond, fill it in and cover with patio concrete slabs, job done. |

Stella is trying to keep Len's lawn up together so it was scarified last week. At the moment it's looking a bit grim but hopefully she will see the benefit in the Spring. After looking at the photo she has now decided the the patio needs cleaning. Good luck Stella and as you say keeping busy helps you.

We've been kept busy with the allotment, it's never been so empty of weeds, which meant that the veg was very successful this year. Lots of beetroot, potatoes, onions, tomatoes etc. As long as we kept the mole from digging up the roots we have had lots of veg. It's all now been "put to bed" which means the decorating can begin in earnest.

Nothing like the scale of work posted so far, so a little embarrassing to include this. However....
After some flooring work and a furniture move around, the chance to widen some shelves. Some laser levelling and precision wood cutting later and the shelves have more than doubled in width. There's a secret to the precision cutting that I'm not allowed to reveal, only to say that the answer begins with a B and a Q. |
