Short Mat 2021/22
The Short Mat season culminated with final nights held on 8th April.
The first event was the Wooden Spoon final contest between Six on the Beech and Little & Large. In a closely fought contest, Six on the Beech ran out winners of the spoon by losing 7-6.
The Grand Final followed with the Wooden Tops taking on the Cheeky Monkees. Early in the match, the Cheekys were on the wrong side of a 7-shot end to go 10-1 down. The battle over the next 5 ends saw them fight back but the Wooden Tops clung on to win 11-8.
The evening finished with the season finale game of Killer. The biggest pot of the season was taken by Chris Gardner, he and the rest of us are still trying to figure out how this happened.

Special mention here to Steve, John & Mick (aka Spanner, Noddy & Big Ears) who have the run Short Mat nights through the winter months.
We're now just a week away from outdoor summer events but look out for the restart of Short Mat in October and if you didn't get involved this season, come along in the autumn and see what you missed.

Benevolent Triples, 17th September, 2021
Triples Day, 21st August, 2021
There were some grey clouds at the start of the day, some rain during the day but the sun shone ready for the Final. The heaviest of the rain was avoided by the call to an early lunch.
The two group winners, Gill Crean, Marcia Askham & Phil Patterson and Reg Miles, Jim Davies & John Baker, won through to the final, each losing just one group match. Gill, Marcia & Phil prevailed, continuing the recent trend of a novice bowler playing lead for the winning team. Well done to both teams for a thrilling end to the day.
Thanks go to all the players who ignored the rain and played some fine bowls on a fun day at the club, and of course a special thanks go to Marg and Tony Morris who once again put together a fantastic day and ran the whole competition. The theme for the teams this year was surprisingly based on Covid.
