Short Mat 2025/26
Finals Evening, 6:15pm, Friday, 27th March
The winter shortmat season is drawing to a close, and the play-off and finals matches will be played on Friday, 27th March, starting at 6:15pm. Everyone is welcome to attend. If you’ve never played or seen shortmat at the club, the evening could be an eye-opener; you might be encouraged to join a team, or even enter a team of your own next winter. Any preconception that outdoor bowls etiquette is carried indoors to shortmat should be cast aside, well, mostly.
On finals night, we’ll be playing on two mats with the top four from each of our two leagues playing off for a finals spot.. The Wooden Spoon and Champions Final matches for each league will follow. If time & enthusiasm allow, we’d hope to have a record number entering the game of Killer to round off the evening and the season.
This year’s shortmat leagues have been contested by 9 teams in each league, playing each other twice in the main league and once in the 25-Up league. At matches and weekly roll-ups, all players pay £1. This money is used to replace shortmat kit and to make donations to nominated charities. This year we will have accumulated just over £1,000 and the captains’ end-of-season meeting will decided how much will be retained and how much will be donated to which charities. If you’re a player and wish to nominate a charity, please let your team captain know which charity and why.
Finally, my thanks to all players who, as well as turning up & playing on wintery nights, have opened the club, secured it afterwards, managed the bar, and organised roll-up evenings.
